Luiz Gonzaga y Humberto Teixeira compusieron 'Asa Branca' en 1947 sobre la sequía del Nordeste de Brasil —el asa-branca (paloma ala-blanca) abandona la región cuando no hay agua. Es el himno no oficial del Nordeste brasileño y una de las canciones más queridas del Brasil. El 'Rei do Baião' popularizó el acordeón nordestino en todo el país.
